firehole canyon

This photo was taken early one morning as fog began lifting off the rushing water. Sunlight began reflecting off the canyon walls, revealing the canyon's beauty.

This canyon was created by 800-foot lava flows and is home to one of only two swimming holes existing in Yellowstone National Park. It would be a rugged climb down to get to the watering hole at this section of the canyon. Although the name of the canyon would make you believe the water is warm, it is not. It is actually quite chilly.

Firehole Canyon Drive is located south of Madison Junction and is a one-way, two mile drive along the beautiful Grand Loop Road.
